Description

The Church of San Lorenzo, which stands in the upper part of town of Ospedaletto, has a single nave with three bays divided by pilasters.

On the first altar on the right the chapel of the Madonna of the Rosary has reappeared, frescoed by a Carducci according to the usual scheme (ca. 1580). To the side of this altar we find a Saint holding a crucifix and book, from the late 16th cent. On the first pilaster is St. Lucy, a fresco dated 1607 in the archaic style. On the next altar are wooden statues of Mary and Joseph from the late 16th century, and of the Child. At the sides are two panels, one with a fragmentary St. Philip Neri from the 17th century.

In the presbytery, two wooden cases removed from the first two altars of the nave have been set up. On the right one is a canvas of St. Francis Ferrer, signed 1730. The high altar has a modern Madonna inside a gilded wooden case from the 1700s. On the left wall are various frescoes from the second half of the 1500s, including Saint Apollonia with the attribute of tongs and St. Paul over the holy oil container. Gerolamo Sparapane worked in the church in 1543.
